On Florida’s Forgotten Coast, we celebrate Independence Day as though it were the Fourth of July! Parades, fireworks, ice cream socials, cookouts, music….. for the entire long weekend, there will be plenty to keep folks of all ages entertained. Here’s a short list of events:
PARADES
July 3, Apalachicola: The Red, White and Blue Parade starts at Lafayette Park at 6:30 PM. It’s an Apalachicola tradition that welcomes golf carts, people on bicycles, and even dogs to get decked out in patriotic colors and form a parade.
July 4, St. George Island: A wet & wild parade of floats, boats & golf carts, with the line-up starting near Harry A’s and traveling through the commercial district. Have your soaker guns ready! Starts late morning (island time).
July 4, Sopchoppy: Downtown, followed by an all-day, all-night celebration with arts, crafts & food at City Park on the banks of the Sopchoppy River.
COOK-OUTS
July 3, Apalachicola: All-American cook-out at 5:00 PM at Riverfront Park.
ICE CREAM SOCIALS
July 3, Apalachicola: At Riverfront Park, following the Red, White and Blue Parade.
MUSIC
On the Forgotten Coast we love music! And, plans for the holiday entertainment venues are still being made. So, check your favorite hangout to see what they have planned.
July 3, Apalachicola: At Riverfront Park, featuring Johnny Hayes, a current competitor on “The Voice.”
St. George Island: At Paddy’s Raw Bar, the John Sutton Band, all weekend long.
FIREWORKS
July 1, Carrabelle: Kick off the long weekend for fireworks along the Carrabelle waterfront, at “dark-thirty.”
July 3, Apalachicola: At Riverfront Park, “dark-thirty.”
July 4, St. George Island: On the beach, behind the Blue Parrot, “dark-thirty.”
July 4, Sopchoppy: At City Park, after sunset.
BOAT SHOW
July 4, Carrabelle: From noon until 5:00 PM, at the Carrabelle Boat Club. Vendors, exhibits and live music.
